The single cycle Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery, is divided over six years (twelve semesters), 360 credits, The aim is to train a doctor at a European professional level with a multidisciplinary and integrated vision in the various biomedical, technological, clinical and health fields. The program is designed taking into account the current demands of the health system, aiming to provide the most appropriate care services to protect the health of the population.
The student will be encouraged to devote constant attention to the human aspects of health and disease referring to a concept of health oriented to the sick person as a whole, in its uniqueness and in its specificity of gender and population. The program intends to train a competent doctor not only in a technical perspective-scientific, but also sensitive and prepared towards the new cultural needs and new health needs of a rapidly changing society with a constant attention to the ethical and ethical principles of the medical profession. Particular attention is paid in the training project to the acquisition of technological and managerial knowledge that will allow him to carry out a clinical activity in the hospital or territory in step with the times.
The training program initially provides a solid biomedical cultural foundation (preclinical three years) providing a thorough knowledge of the human body, focused on scientific methodology, knowledge of molecular processes, morpho-functional and physio pathological underlying diseases.
The offer of the CDS continues with a second clinical three-year period, where the student can acquire solid knowledge and clinical-diagnostic skills in the medical and surgical areas as well as in the area of prevention and health promotion. During the course, attention will be placed on the acquisition of skills in the field of
the humanities, as essential baggage to achieve the awareness of being a doctor.
Clinical skills and abilities are developed in the internship activities (60 University Credits CFU\ ECTS- The European Credit and Transfer System; of 15 are evaluative for the purposes of the qualification to practice the profession in the fifth and sixth year), which take place from the second year of study. This professional training is carried out through the involvement of the structures of the Regional General Hospital “F. Miulli” of Acquaviva delle Fonti (BA) and other health facilities affiliated with the Puglia Region, competent in the field of diagnosis and prevention, health safety in living and working environments and rehabilitation treatments.
The student will be stimulated to develop the ability to deal with medical problems according to a scientific mentality and methodology, also gained through the progressive and preparatory acquisition of knowledge and ability to critically and independently analyze data, verifying its scientific foundations and through the preparation of the thesis.
Attendance at the planned training activities is compulsory; during the course of studies, formative experiences abroad in Europe (Erasmus project) will be encouraged.
The master’s degree in Medicine and Surgery entitles you to practice as a doctor-surgeon and is an essential requirement for access to specialized schools of medical, surgical and services (duration 4 or 5 years with admission test at national level) or training courses in general medical practice (duration 3
years with regional admission test). The graduate in Medicine and Surgery can also access, after a competition announcement, PhD programs in the medical or biomedical area (duration 3 years) in Italian or foreign universities.
