To pre-enroll please complete the procedure online. In order to complete your enrolment, you will need to obtain an entry visa.
Important information for non-EU students: if you need to apply for a visa to enter Italy, please note that the Italian Ministry for University and Research has published the Procedures for entry, residency and enrollment in Italian Higher Education Institutions for students requiring a Visa for a.y. 2023/24. You are strongly recommended to read this document carefully and, if it applies to you, to register to the Universitaly portal in order to obtain a study visa for Italy attaching the documents listed in the side menu.
If you are a non-EU student residing abroad and you want to enrol in a degree programme taught in Italian, you must meet the Italian language requirement: pass the Italian language test or present a valid certificate.
Online pre-enrolment is mandatory for all non-UE students living abroad, including those who have already gone through LUM’s pre-selection process.
Visa and Residence Permit
All non-EU students who have been admitted to any program at LUM University will receive an official invitation letter from the University (after sending their personal information needed to issue the letter to the International Office) which is to be used when applying for an Italian study visa.
Students who need a study Visa for Italy can visit the dedicated page on the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s website, in order to check the documentation they need and the specific Consulate/Embassy/Visa center they have to refer to.
According to the Procedures for entry, residency and enrollment in Italian Higher Education Institutions for students requiring a Visa for a.y. 2022/23 study visas for university enrollment have to be finalized by November 30, 2022.
Once in Italy, non-EU students need to apply for a residence permit no later than 8 working days after the date of their arrival (the date is shown on their visa, inside their passport).

Pre-application in a two-year master’s degree programme:
- high school diploma, translated into Italian, legalized by the authorities of the country issuing the degree;
- Degree (Bachelor Sc. or equivalent), translated into Italian by an official translator, legalized by the competent authorities of the Country issuing the degree;
- on-site Declaration of Value issued by the Italian Embassy in the country where the degree has been obtained or Statement of comparability issued by CIMEA (only for those already in possession);
- identity document;
- admission letter issued by our University.
ATTENTION:
The high school diploma and university degree/certificates are also accepted in French, English, German and Spanish.
The certified translation of the university degree and the related on-site Declaration of Value/statement of validity can be replaced by the Diploma Supplement issued by the universities of countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area.
Foundation Year
The Foundation Course (FC) is a 2-semester study program that allows students with less than 12 years of schooling to fulfill the prerequisites for pursuing a bachelor’s program in LUM and in any Italian University. In particular, it is aimed at students. The course is also intended for those who wish to improve their background and linguistic skills even if they have the minimum 12 years of schooling.
Course location
The Foundation Course is delivered on campus and/or with online synchronous classes and is characterized by continuous assessment.
Study plan
The Foundation Course involves a total teaching commitment of 600 hours equal to 60 Foundation Course Credits. CFC credits are not university credits; therefore, it is not possible to request them recognition for any course abbreviations.
To complete the program you need:
– reach the mandatory minimum attendance of 85% in all scheduled courses which include an Italian course and six courses for each area of study.
– successfully pass the exams of all scheduled courses.
Start of courses: November 2024
Fees
The overall cost of the Foundation Year program is €5,000.00 (five thousand/00), divided into two instalments:
€3,000.00 (three thousand/00) at the time of enrolment;
€2,000.00 (three thousand/00) by 15 December 2024.
The fee includes accident and civil liability insurance during the duration of the course, learning materials, tutoring, access to LUM University services and facilities. The fee does not include the cost of travel, visa, accommodation, meals, books, health insurance, personal expenses and the cost of the language certification.
For Foundation Program students who decide to enroll in one of the LUM University study courses (undergraduate and single-cycle degree courses), the University provides an exemption of 3,000 euros on the last installment of the final year for students graduating in progress.
Dates
by 25 August 2024 send the pre-registration form attaching:
- transcript of records of the last year of secondary school;
- copy of passport;
- original version of the upper secondary school qualification (or photocopy of the original), with certified Italian translation and declaration of value issued by the competent Italian diplomatic authorities.
- documentation on possession of the B1 competence in English or Italian.
Students will be able to complete the enrollment procedure subject to authorization to proceed from the Internationalization Office of LUM University which will have verified the correct presentation of all the required documentation and the suitability of the candidates.
Enrollment procedure
To enroll on the LUM University’s Foundation Year, students need to follow the following simple steps:
- Students must fill out the online application form by 25th August 2024.
Please, attach:
- transcript of records of the last secondary school year;
- copy of Passport;
- an original version of the secondary school leaving qualification (or a copy of the original version), officially translated into Italian, and Declaration of Value issued by the Italian authorities in the country of residence;
- evidence of language competence in English at an intermediate level.
- Applicants will be informed by e-mail of the acceptance or refusal of their application. After paying 20% of the tuition fees (first installment) and sending a copy of the bank transfer to international@lum.it, candidates who have been accepted will receive a letter of admission and confirmation that a place for the 2023-24 academic year has been reserved for them.
- Admitted students holding their Admission Letter will be able to enroll on the FY Programme through the website Universitaly submitting a pre-enrolment request form (please, see the guide).
- Admitted students holding their Admission Letter are requested to apply for a type D Visa (study purpose) at the Italian Embassy/Consulate in their home country. While waiting for their visa to be issued, prospective students will attend the online intensive course of Italian starting November 2024. In case a visa for study purposes isn’t awarded leading to the termination from the Foundation Year programme, prospective students who will have attended the intensive course regularly and passed the corresponding exam will have to pay for the lessons taken.
