Department of Medicine and Surgery (MED)

The Department of Medicine and Surgery (DMS) is dedicated to promoting excellence in the biomedical and scientific fields in general, through the synergistic implementation of its main activities, research, and teaching. The scientific work carried out by the professors belonging to the DMS contributes to the growth of knowledge in various areas of basic, applied, and clinical medical sciences, aiming to particularly contribute to the formulation of strategies based on modern approaches of precision medicine (also known as personalized medicine). The educational offer is in line with this vision, focused on the use of educational models aimed at training modern professional figures that are up-to-date on new discoveries and technologies in the biomedical and healthcare fields, ensuring adequate skills projected towards the future in diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic approaches.
Currently, two educational paths for the main healthcare professional figures are embedded in the DMS: the Physician (Second-cycle Degree in Medicine and Surgery) and the Nurse (Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing). In the DMS, these figures mature through a training path rooted in the fundamental values of scientific evidence and research.
The departmental structure, through the availability (in the near future) of wide laboratory spaces with a multidisciplinary focus, represents the core of the experimental and research work of the various professors in their respective areas of interest, meeting the educational and scientific needs of the preclinical sectors. The excellence of the research pursued by the DMS contributes to enhancing the affiliated clinical-care structures by promoting the emergence and synergistic development of innovative ideas and new technologies.
